About AYS

Sometimes it makes more sense to upgrade a computer rather than replace it.  This can be especially true if buying a new one is outside your budget.

If your computer is used mostly for word processing, surfing the Internet, sending emails, and other less demanding tasks, a few simple and relatively inexpensive upgrades can often yield real improvements in performance and usability.

If you want to perform more demanding tasks with your computer, for example photo or video editing, then sometimes upgrading is a necessity.  The more demanding the task, the more likely your system’s performance will need to be improved.

In many cases a basic PC can be upgraded to perform more demanding work if proper planning and preparation is done ahead of time.  Accurately determining the system’s current configuration is the first step.  The second step is to develop an understanding of your upgrade requirements.  What do you actually want to accomplish?  What new software do you want to run on the upgraded computer?

Once this is done, you can decide whether the system can be upgraded and how it might be done.  At Your Service can help you make these decisions if you are unfamiliar with them.

However, buying a new computer is sometimes necessary.  If your current PC is more than six years old, it should probably be replaced instead of upgraded.  As a computer ages, the range of available upgrade options becomes limited as parts are more difficult to find.

In addition, as a computer ages the failure rate for its internal components like memory, the CPU, hard drives, and the power supply will increase.  After a time, it makes more sense to replace the computer rather than to continue repairing it.
